Christmas Candle

christmas Nov 09, 2022

This is a super simple Christmas candle - it is just a rectangle! We are using a 6x12 canvas, but you can use whatever size you would like. We will be adding lots of fun goodies and glass as well as some acrylic paint. Let's get started!

I am painting my background with white and a light blue called Waterfall.

I'm going to mark where my candle flame will be. I'm going to add a little bit of Metallic Gold paint. Dip it into the gold and swirl it onto your plate. I want this to just be a light glow on the canvas, just plaint a circle around where your flame will be.

Grab your tracer, tape it to the canvas, place graphite paper underneath, and trace your candle with a stylus onto the canvas.

Next, I'm going to paint my candle with Cherry Red. Then, I'm going to add some brown to my canvas with a liner brush to create my little evergreen branches. I'll also paint the melted tip of my candle with white paint and the flame with Metallic Gold. Also, add a second coat of the red paint on the candle.

Next, I'm going to add in my evergreen needles with Avocado Green. I'm just adding short strokes - starting at the end and coming towards the branch. This should be organic with all different sizes and thickness.

For my top two branches, I'll take the end of a paint brush, dip it into my red, and make some holly berries.

I'm going to add some shadows and details. I'm taking a tiny bit of black paint with some water and creating a shadow on the side of my candle. I'll add some white on the opposite side. Then, I'll add some white dots to my berries with a stylus. Let dry.

I'll take my graphic pen to add details and outlining. I'll add some short strokes to my pine needles and outlines my candle and flame.

Now, let's add glass! For the candle, I am going to add some clear glass strips and a nip of yellow sheet glass for my flame.

I am going to add some things to the bottom of my candle. I am adding green reflective glass, clear glass, red and green nips, red and green 6mm beads, mini pine cones, and a couple of leaf shaped beads I got from Michaels.

Next, we will add resin. We're going to elevate our canvas using blocks. Mix 2 ounces of resin and stir gently for three minutes. Then, drizzle over your glass. Pour the remainder of resin onto your canvas and spread it using your gloved fingers or brush.

Use a heat gun to pop your bubbles. Keep your heat moving at all times!

Now, I will add some white seed beads to the top of my candle and the bottom. I will also add red seed beads to my holly berries and some bubbles here and there.
