Christmas Mittens

christmas Dec 29, 2022

I am using an 8x10 canvas today to create some Christmas mittens hanging on a line. I am going to add lots of glass and goodies sitting in my mittens, like a candy cane, pinecones, icicles, clear and green glass, Christmas miniatures, and more!

I am going to start by painting my background white. I'm going to add some Calypso Blue and just paint from top to bottom with strokes. I'm going to add some extra blue paint to the top of my canvas and spray it with my water mister to create drips down the canvas. Let dry.

Next, I'm going to add some snowflake splatters. Mix white paint with water to create a mixture. Dip an old toothbrush into your mixture and just run your finger along the bristles right above your canvas. Let dry.

Grab your tracer, tape it to the canvas, place transfer paper underneath, and trace your mittens with a stylus onto the canvas.

Now, we'll paint! I'm going to paint the top of my mittens white and the mittens with Cherry Red. Let dry. Then, do a second coat of white and red on the mittens.

Now, we'll add some shadows and highlights. Add some black along the line where your two mittens meet. Add some white paint to your mittens to create some highlights.

Now, we're going to paint some greenery. I'm using Hauser Green Light and Avocado paint to add some holly leaves and pine needles sticking out the mittens, just to create a background to the glass. Add some white paint to your leaves for highlighting and some Cherry Red berries. Let dry.

I'm going to add some details with my graphic pen. I'm just outlining my mittens with short strokes and adding some lines to my greenery.

Now we are ready to add all the things! You can use whatever you would like at this point. I am adding Christmas miniatures, candy cane, pinecones, greenery, etc! I'm also adding some Starfire glass to the white part of my mitten.

Next, we will add resin. We're going to elevate our canvas using blocks. Mix 1 ounce of resin and stir gently for three minutes. Then, drizzle over your glass. Pour the remainder of resin onto your canvas and spread it using your gloved fingers or brush.

Use a heat gun to pop your bubbles. Keep your heat moving at all times!

I'll also sprinkle some Crystal Luster seed beads into my canvas to create some snow.
