Mini Watermelon Canvas 🍉

What screams summer more than watermelon? We are making a little watermelon art piece today. I'll show you how to paint it from start to finish using a fun palette knife technique. Then, we'll add some clear glass and resin to finish it all off! This one is quick, easy, and fun!

Grab your tracer, tape it to your canvas, place graphite paper underneath, and trace it with a stylus onto your canvas.

I'm going to take some black acrylic paint and apply it to my canvas background using a palette knife. My background isn't going to stay black, so this doesn't need to be perfect. We'll be adding another color on top later. Dry with a heat tool.

Next, we will paint our watermelon! I am using a smaller palette knife for this part of my art piece. I am going to start by applying some Primary Red to the right side of my watermelon and pulling it to the middle. Then, I'll add some Pink Melon in the middle, blending it towards the red. Then, we'll add white to the left side of the watermelon, blending it with the other colors as well.

I'm going to add some Buttercream and Avocado to my palette. I'm going to a small paintbrush and add the Buttercream color to the inside of my rind area. Then, I'll add the Avocado Green to the end of my rind. Dry with a heat tool.

I'm going to take a #4 liner brush, roll it in some black acrylic paint, and paint in some seeds. You're just pressing your brush onto your canvas and gently lifting it to get that seed shape. I'll also add a couple white seeds as well. Dry with a heat tool.

Next, we will finish up our background. I am applying a coat of Tropical Blue with some white paint over top of our black background with a palette knife, letting some of that black peek through. I'll also paint the sides of my canvas with the blue. This is supposed to be messy and imperfect! Dry with a heat tool.

I'm going to use a black Posca Pen and a white Posca Pen and add some detail lines outlining my watermelon.

I'm going to add the tiniest dot of glue to my black watermelon seeds and add a piece of black glass to each one. I'll add Starfire glass to my watermelon, not covering the whole thing. Finally, I'll add green glass to my rind.

We're going to elevate our canvas using blocks. Mix 1/2 ounce of resin and stir gently for three minutes. Pour the resin onto your glass and spread it onto your canvas using your gloved fingers or brush.

Use a heat gun to pop your bubbles. Keep your heat moving at all times!
