This adorable little bunny is dressed up for Easter with a colorful polka-dot egg, dimensional bubbles, and a sparkly glass tail. He’s painted on a thick 5x7 canvas, which makes him the perfect little shelf sitter. This project is playful, beginner-friendly, and a wonderful way to experiment with paint, pen work, glass, and resin all in one piece. Let’s walk through it together.

Begin by covering your entire canvas with white acrylic paint using a 1" flat brush. Once the surface is coated, lightly dip just the tips of your brush into Mermaid Blue and loosely blend it across the canvas using soft X-strokes. Dry the canvas completely before moving on to the next step.

Once the background is dry and cool to the touch, place your transfer paper underneath the bunny tracer and trace the design onto the canvas. You can skip tracing the whiskers and tail since those can easily be freehanded later. Be sure your canvas is fully cooled from drying so your transfer lines stay clean and don’t smudge.
Using Granite Gray and a smaller flat brush, fill in the bunny just like you would a coloring book. As you paint, add small touches of white while the gray is still wet to create soft highlights on the ears, head, and feet. This keeps the bunny from looking flat and gives him subtle dimension. Blend gently so the white melts into the gray instead of sitting on top.
Mix Dragon Fruit pink with a touch of white to lighten it slightly, then freehand a small round tail on the back of your bunny. This pop of color adds sweetness and will later be enhanced with clear glass for sparkle and texture.
Paint the egg shape with Eggplant purple, carefully working up to the bunny’s body. Depending on your paint coverage, you may need two coats to achieve a rich, solid purple. Allow the egg to dry completely before adding details.

Using a black illustration pen, loosely outline the bunny, egg, and tail. Instead of drawing one continuous line, use short, sketchy strokes for a relaxed, whimsical look. Add simple whiskers at this stage. The pen work instantly makes the design pop and gives the piece a finished feel.
To create the polka dots, dip the eraser end of a pencil into green, yellow, and pink acrylic paint and press it onto the egg to form clean, round dots. You can create partial dots near the edge by bracing a piece of cardboard against the egg and stamping along the edge. Add a few smaller filler dots using a stylus or the tip of a small tool to balance the design. Dry thoroughly before moving forward.
Once the dots are dry, place a small dab of clear tacky glue on top of each painted dot and press a clear acrylic bubble on top, flat side down. These little bubbles create a beautiful dimensional effect and allow the painted color to shine through.
Apply glue to the pink tail and gently press a few small pieces of clear glass into the shape. Choose pieces with slight curves so they follow the roundness of the tail. Keep the glass layer light so it doesn’t overpower the design. Allow the glue to set briefly before resining.

For this 5x7 canvas with minimal glass, mix 1/8 ounce of resin with 1/8 ounce of hardener, stirring thoroughly for a full three minutes while scraping the sides and bottom of your cup. Pour the resin over the canvas, making sure to coat the glass tail and acrylic bubbles first, then spread the remaining resin across the surface using gloved fingers. Lightly run your finger along the edges to help prevent drips. Use a heat gun to pop any bubbles that rise to the surface.
Allow your bunny to cure on a level surface for 24 hours. Once cured, you’ll have the sweetest little Easter shelf sitter, complete with a softly blended blue background, dimensional gray bunny, sparkly glass tail, glossy bubble polka-dot egg, and a beautiful resin shine that makes the colors come alive!
