Roses with Steve 🌹

I'm really excited about today's project because I've got Steve joining me to create this adorable mini rose canvas! I'll be walking you through the steps of making a simple glass art rose, and what makes it extra special is that you'll get to witness a true beginner, Steve, learning the ropes in real time. This one's perfect if you're just starting out or if it's your first venture into the world of glass and resin art.

First, paint the sides and front of your canvas with black acrylic paint. Let dry or dry with a heat tool.

Now, we will start painting our flowers! I am using a #12 round brush and Dragonfruit, Poodleskirt Pink, and Strawberry. Start with the Strawberry (or your darkest color) and make a circle. Then, move on to your other pinks and make parenthesis with your brush to create that rose petal shape and layer each color. Next, I'll take Crocus Yellow and add some dots to the middle to create a flower center.

Paint your leaves with a light green (I'm using Hauser Green Light) and then blend in some white on one side of the leaf and Plantation Pine on the other. If you'd like to add more color to your flowers, you can!

Dry with a heat tool.

Use a graphic pen to add short strokes and detail lines to your rose and leaves. I will add some squiggles to the inside of my flower and then some outlining around the leaves. Next, I'm going to use a gold Posca Pen to make it really pop with more detail lines.

I have an old clear vase that I used to cut out flower petal shapes with my nippers. You will want to hold your nippers and cut around the curve of your vase to make those curved glass pieces. Hone the pieces with a stone to dull the sharp edges. Add a little bit of clear tacky glue to your rose, start in the middle, and start layering your glass on its side to create that dimension of a rose. I also have a couple of green glass pieces for the leaves.

We're going to elevate our canvas using blocks. Mix 1/2 ounce of resin for TWO flowers and stir gently for three minutes. Pour the resin onto your glass and spread it onto your canvas using your gloved fingers or brush.

Use a heat gun to pop your bubbles. Keep your heat moving at all times! Sprinkle some yellow and blue seed beads into the flower centers.
