This American Flag Heart project is the perfect way to celebrate the Fourth of July, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, or simply show your love for the USA. Featuring bold brushstrokes, shimmering reflective glass, metallic gold accents, and a dramatic black background, this beginner-friendly mixed-media project creates a one-of-a-kind piece that's perfect for patriotic decor!

Tape the tracer to your canvas. Slide graphite paper underneath and trace the outside of the heart along with the center dividing line and the wavy flag stripes with a stylus.
The wavy lines don't need to be perfectly straight - in fact, a loose, hand-painted look adds character to the finished piece. Once the tracer is removed, you'll have a guide for the blue field of the flag and the red and white stripes.
Using a large flat brush, paint the sides of the canvas first with black acrylic paint.
Next, carefully paint the entire background around...
This patriotic sunflower project is such a fun way to combine summer florals with red, white, and blue style. Instead of painting a traditional sunflower, we’re turning the petals into an American flag-inspired design, then finishing the center with sparkling blue glass and resin. It’s perfect for summer decor, Memorial Day, the 4th of July, Veterans Day, or any patriotic art display.

Start by painting the canvas with Oyster White. This gives the background a soft off-white tone instead of stark white, which makes it easier to see the white petals later. Cover the full canvas with a thin coat, then dry it with a heat gun. Let the surface cool before tracing or painting on top of it.
Use the center of a sunflower tracer to place the middle of the flower. Then sketch larger sunflower petals around the center. The goal is to create petals large enough to hold the flag-inspired design, so don’t make them too tiny or d...
This patriotic heart project is a meaningful mixed-media piece that combines acrylic paint, glass, and resin on a simple white canvas board. The heart is painted loosely like an American flag, then finished with a raised glass cross in the center and crushed blue glass for sparkle and texture.

Start with a hard canvas board that has already been painted white. Once the white paint is dry, place your heart tracer on the canvas and transfer the design using graphite paper. This gives you a guide for painting the flag-style heart and helps keep the overall shape balanced.
You do not need to worry about the heart being perfect. This project is meant to look loose, handmade, and expressive.
Begin by painting the blue section of the flag heart. Use your blue acrylic paint and fill in the upper right portion of the heart. Cover your tracer lines as you paint so they do not show through later.
This section will eventua...

I am using a wooden canvas for this art piece, which means it is very porous. Start by adding three coats of Americana Buttermilk to your background. Lightly sand your canvas in between coats.
Grab your tracer, tape it to your canvas, place graphite paper underneath, and trace your flag with a stylus.
Paint your stripes with red paint and white paint, and paint the square with blue paint. You will need to add multiple coats to get the coverage you would like! Add lighter blue paint as well as white paint to create some dimen...
Looking for a fun and festive art project to celebrate the 4th? This glass and resin art tutorial will guide you in creating an adorable patriotic watermelon! This art piece is perfect for displaying on a tiered tray or gifting to someone special. It's designed with beginners in mind, using only three paint colors and simple techniques.

Start by painting a coat of white acrylic paint on your background. Dry with a heat tool.
Mix red acrylic paint with water, dip an old toothbrush into your mixture, tap off the excess, and run your finger along the bristles about 8-10 inches above your canvas to create a splatter effect. Dry with a heat tool.

Grab your tracer, tape it to your canvas, place graphite paper underneath, and trace your watermelon with a stylus.
Next, we are going to add a base coat of dark blue, white, and red paint on each section of the watermelon. Dry with a heat tool.

Add a second coat of each color, blending the colors where they meet at each watermelon sect...
We're creating a sparkling flag on a 4x12 canvas, perfect for beginners. It's easy to follow along - we'll use a palette knife technique to paint the stripes, then add some sparkle with plastic stars, glass, and a glossy resin finish. This project is the perfect way to celebrate summer and add a touch of patriotism to your home!

First, I'm going to paint a square on the left side of my canvas with Midnight Blue paint. Make sure you paint the side of the canvas as well. Dry with a heat tool.

Next, we will work on the stripes! I am going to scoop up some white acrylic paint with the back of my palette knife and swipe the color onto my stripes. This will not be perfect and will have a very natural and abstract look to it! I'll use this same technique to paint my red stripes. While the paint is still wet, use your palette knife to blend the colors of the stripes together more. I'll also add some Midnight Blue in the stripes.
Then, I'll add another coat of Midnight Blue to my square...
We are using an 8x10 canvas to create a fun, rustic patriotic flag art piece! I'll be showing you how to get that rustic look using palette knives when applying our paint colors and also how to add some patriotic phrases. We'll also be adding glass and resin to finish the piece off. This is the perfect art project for the 4th of July holiday or anytime this summer!

First, start by sketching out the shape of a flag - the square in the top left corner and some stripes. I'm going to add a base coat of paint to my canvas using Prussian Blue, Cherry Red, and white paint. I'll also paint the sides of my canvas. This does not need to be perfect and doesn't need the best coverage because we'll be applying some paint on top of this. Dry with a heat tool.

Next, I am going to apply some paint to my white stripes. I am using red, blue, black, gold, and white and I'm applying this paint with a palette knife, and using the back of the palette knife to add the paint from right to left in natura...
We are using an 8x10 canvas to create a patriotic glass art piece! We'll be painting some red stripes on our canvas with gold stars, then we will add some blue bottle rings that I got on Etsy to spell the letters USA. I used my nippers to cut the bottle rings to make the different letter shapes. This turned out so cute and unique - perfect for the 4th of July holiday!

First, I am going to take a measuring tape and make marks down my canvas at the 1-inch mark. I'm going to start by painting every other stripe with white paint, taking it all the way to the sides of the canvas too. Dry with a heat tool.
Then, I'm going to paint the other stripes with Cherry Red. While the paint is still white, I'm going to take some white paint and go along each stripes line to blend that line a little bit. I'll also add a bit of white in each red stripes, and a bit of white in each red stripes. The messier the better! Dry with a heat tool.

We're going to jazz up our stripes! I have a DecoArt Meta...
We are creating a patriotic tie art piece perfect for a Father's Day gift! This is going to be on a 6x12 canvas and I will be showing you how to paint this tie from start to finish. Then, we'll add some seed beads to finish it off and make it all come together perfectly!
Grab your tracer, tape it to the canvas, place graphite paper underneath, and transfer your tie with a stylus onto the canvas.
I'm going to take a flat paintbrush and paint the shirt area of my art piece with white paint. I'll also paint the stars on the top of my tie with white as well. Then, I'll take some Midnight Blue and paint the top of my tie and the top corners of my shirt area. Next, I'll add Cherry Red paint to two of my tie stripes. Add a second coat to these areas as well as some shadowing and highlights.

Add some white paint to your other tie stripes and then add a tiny bit of red to one stripe and a tiny bit of blue to the other white stripe. Dry with a heat tool.

We are going to do the V on t...
As we're gearing up to celebrate the 4th of July, I have some gorgeous abstract flags for you in two different sizes. With these flags, we are using a palette knife to paint the stars and stripes and then adding some blue glass. These are so easy to make and we'll be walking through how to do them! We are using a 4x12 and a 4x4 canvas to create these.

Start by loading your palette knife with some blue paint. (I'm using a separate palette knife for each colors.) Scrape the blue paint onto the left corner of your canvas.

Next is the white paint. Scoop some white onto your palette knife and make white stripes across your canvas. Don't make them straight, but make it look like the flag is waving in the wind. Then, we'll do the red stripes the same exact way. Blend the stripes together a little bit so it looks natural.

Now I'm going to add a little bit of gold paint. I'm loading a tiny bit on the very edge of my palette knife. I'm holding it sideways and running it along my strip...
