Roses with Steve 🌹

flower Feb 27, 2024

I'm really excited about today's project because I've got Steve joining me to create this adorable mini rose canvas! I'll be walking you through the steps of making a simple glass art rose, and what makes it extra special is that you'll get to witness a true beginner, Steve, learning the ropes in real time. This one's perfect if you're just starting out or if it's your first venture into the world of glass and resin art.

First, paint the sides and front of your canvas with black acrylic paint. Let dry or dry with a heat tool.

Now, we will start painting our flowers! I am using a #12 round brush and Dragonfruit, Poodleskirt Pink, and Strawberry. Start with the Strawberry (or your darkest color) and make a circle. Then, move on to your other pinks and make parenthesis with your brush to create that rose petal shape and layer each color. Next, I'll take Crocus Yellow and add some dots to the middle to create a flower center.

Paint your leaves with...

Dusty Rose Poinsettia 💗

christmas flower winter Dec 13, 2023

We are using a 6x6 canvas to create a gorgeous dusty rose poinsettia flower, which would look amazing in your home during the holiday or winter season! This one requires very minimal painting (just the background!) and has tons of glass goodies. I'll be showing you how to create a flower out of pieces of a candle votive and we'll also add lots of beads and resin.

Use glass nippers or wheeled nippers to cut your flower petals from a candle votive. Take your nippers and cut horizontally around the edge with your votive, going around the entire votive until you get to the bottom. Your petals will not be perfect and that is okay! Once you have your petals, use a honing stone to sand down those sharp edges and points.

Paint your background with a coat of Metallic White. Then, I'll add some dots of Metallic Stone paint and pounce my paintbrush to give the background texture. I'll also use the plastic wrap that was on my canvas and just dab that on it too. Dry with a heat...

Sunflower Gnome 🌻

flower gnome Sep 06, 2023

We are working on a 4x12 canvas and creating a super cute sunflower gnome! I will show you how I paint this gnome from start to finish, and then we'll be adding some yellow glass sunflower petals as well as some amber-colored glass to our flower center. This is a great fall art piece to create this season!

Grab your tracer, tape it to your canvas, place graphite paper underneath, and trace your gnome onto your canvas with a stylus.

First, I am going to start by painting his hat with Hauser Green. Then, I'll use a lighter green on the bottom part of his hat. Add a second coat to both colors.

Then, paint his shoes with black paint and his beard with white paint. Then, I'm going to mix together some black paint and white paint to create a gray color, and apply that to the gnome's beard as well.

Paint the nose with Cool Bisque, which is a peachy skin tone color. Then, I'm going to add some detail work to the hat with some black paint and some white...

Stenciled Hydrangea Glass Art Tutorial

flower spring summer Jun 21, 2023

This 8x10 art piece is super easy to create because we are using a stencil! I this hydrangea stencil and knew it would be amazing with some rose gold reflective glass. I'm showing you how to paint and stencil this art project and add all of the glass goodies! This is a great spring or summer art piece and is perfect for beginners too.

First, I am going to paint the background with black paint. I'm going to use a sponge brush to get more coverage faster. Dry with a heat tool.

Next, I am going to add some stenciled flowers in my background. I am using a bright pink called Exotic Bloom and applying it with a stencil brush. Dip your brush in the paint, offload the paint, and then apply it in a circular motion over your stencil very lightly. Dry with a heat tool.

Now, tape your stencil down with your flower in the middle to create your main hydrangea. I am going to layer up on my colors, starting with the Exotic Bloom and concentrating it in the middle. Then, I am going to...

Rose Trio 🌹

flower summer Jun 07, 2023

We are working with three tiny 4x4 canvases to make a trio of roses! I will show you how to paint these from start to finish, as well as add glass pieces for our rose petals. These would make great gifts or decor in your home for the spring and summer seasons. They are also super easy to create and are great for beginners just getting started.

First, paint the sides and front of each canvas with black acrylic paint. Let dry or dry with a heat tool.

Now, we will start painting our flowers! I am using dark pink, light pink, coral, and white paint. I am doing two pink roses and one coral rose. Start with the hot pink and make a circle - I like to make parenthesis with my brush to create that rose petal shape. Dry with a heat tool.

Do another coat of paint and then add in some light pink and some white paint, using the same parenthesis technique.

Next, paint the leaves for each flower. I am using light green, dark green, and white paint to give the leaves some highlights and...

Mother's Day Bouquet 💐

flower mother's day May 04, 2023

I am creating a beautiful flower bouquet on a black background canvas. I am showing you how I painted this from start to finish as well as adding all of the glass goodies to make those flowers really pop. This one is super fun to make, and would make the perfect Mother's Day gift for the mom in your life!

I am using an 8x10 canvas and starting off by painting the background and sides of the canvas with black paint. Let dry or dry with a heat gun.

I am just going to freehand the base of my bouquet. I am going to paint green flower stems - just adding natural strokes going straight up and out.

Next, I am painting my leaves on the canvas. Saturate the brush with green paint, pushing the brush down and lifting it up to create leaf shapes. I'm going to fill in most of the bottom of the bouquet and add some white paint for highlighting. Let dry or dry with a heat gun.

I'm going to grab my graphic pen and define some of these leaves before we move on. I'm just adding some detail...

Field of Tulips 🌷

flower spring Apr 19, 2023

I am using a distressed piece of wood as my surface today to create a beautiful field of tulips. We'll be painting on our wood and then adding some clear glass vase pieces for our petals along with some seed beads and resin. This is the perfect spring project and would look so pretty in your home!

Start by painting your wood piece with some white paint to give it a distressed look. Then, I'm using Hauser Green Light and Avocado Green to paint my board with a chip brush. I'm mostly concentrating on the bottom of my piece. I'll take a smaller brush and some Crocus Yellow and Straw Yellow and just dab that paint into my field of green to create "flowers" in the background. Let dry or dry with a heat gun.

Grab your tracer, tape it to the canvas, place graphite paper underneath, and trace your tulip with a stylus onto the wood.

Now, let's paint our flower! I'm painting the petals with a basecoat of Straw Yellow. Then, I'm painting the leaves and stem...

Trois Flowers 🌺

flower Mar 15, 2023

I am using a 5x7 canvas to create a pretty collection of three flowers. These are going to be very abstract roses - and it's the perfect art project to welcome the spring season! We'll be using several acrylic paint colors and then finishing off our piece with some seed beads and resin.

I'm going to start by sketching my roses onto my canvas with a watercolor pencil. If you have a tracer, you can tape it to your canvas, place graphite paper underneath, and trace it with a stylus.

I'm going to paint around my sketched flowers with some Calypso blue paint. I'll also paint my leaves with some light green, yellow, and a bit of blue paint.

Next, I'm going to paint my roses. I am using three different colors - Cinnamon Drop (red), Dragonfruit (pink), and Vintage Pink. I'm going to swirl the paint and fill in my rose messy and imperfect. I'm going to blend in some white paint as well some of the other colors - just layering the color in a swirling pattern. I'm also going...

Hope Sunflower 🌻

flower Aug 31, 2022

We're finishing out our sunflower series today with a Hope Sunflower! This one will be facing forward and has the word "hope" in it. Again, I'm using seed beads for the center of the sunflower along with some clear glass along the bottom of my canvas.

First, we will grab the tracer, tape it to the canvas, place graphite paper underneath, and trace the sunflower with a stylus onto the canvas (just the flower for now, we'll do the "hope" later)

Next, I am painting my background with turquoise and white paint, just going around my traced sunflower. I'm also painting my edges too. Let dry.

Next, grab your tracer again, tape it to the canvas, place the graphite paper underneath, and trace the word "hope" with your stylus.

I'm painting the sunflower petals with Antique Gold. I'm also painting the leaves with a light green. I'm using a #12 round brush. Let dry.

Next, I'm adding some highlights and lowlights on my petals with some Crocus and Terracotta paint. For the leaves,...

Love Sunflower ❤️ 🌻

flower Aug 24, 2022

I'm continuing with our little sunflower series! This sunflower will be facing the other way and will have the word "love" included. We will be doing a similar turquoise and white background as well as including clear glass on the bottom and some seed beads in my sunflower center. Let's get started!

First, we will grab the tracer, tape it to the canvas, place graphite paper underneath, and trace the sunflower with a stylus onto the canvas (just the flower for now, we'll do the "love" later)

Next, I am painting my background with turquoise and white paint, just going around my traced sunflower. I'm also painting my edges too. Let dry.

Next, grab your tracer again, tape it to the canvas, place the graphite paper underneath, and trace the word "love" with your stylus.

I'm painting my leaves with Hauser Green. I'm using a #6 round brush.

For my sunflower, I am going to use some different, fun colors! I am using the Marigold color again, plus some Spiced Pumpkin (orange) and...
